<p>The Trio for violin, cello and piano by Alexei Retinsky is an example of modern academic music that harmoniously combines the “traditional” and the “new”. The musical space of the cycle is considered as a special type of musical theater, where the action unfolds in an imaginary field that includes a wide range of associations: sound decorations as a background element, proteic entities living extremely intense lives, reflecting the variability and diversity of human nature. In this theater, two conventional musical characters stand out, partly fulfilling thematic functions: one of them embodies the image of contemplation, the other, the opposite of it, embodies the idea of movement and variability (with “bird–like” symbolic connotations). The article reveals the evolution, specifics, and metamorphoses of these characters, their semantic and dramatic content, as well as their dialogues, interactions, and confrontations throughout the chamber cycle. As a result of this interaction, a sharply contradictory picture of the world is emerging, in which conflict resolution is placed beyond the bounds of rational cognition.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Алексей Ретинский</kwd><kwd>камерная музыка</kwd><kwd>трио</kwd><kwd>музыкально-протеические персонажи</kwd><kwd>«новая театральность»</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Alexey Retinsky</kwd><kwd>chamber music</kwd><kwd>trio</kwd><kwd>musical and dramatic characters</kwd><kwd>“new theatricality”</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Валькова В. Б.
