<p>Often outstanding achievements are achieved by musicians acting in the dual role of composer and performer. This is evidenced by numerous examples from the history of music. The author of this article focuses on the work of Keiko Abe, a Japanese marimba performer and composer of the XX–XXI century, a well-known and authoritative figure in the community of percussionists. Her extensive experience of performing on radio, television, and on the concert stage, and her active co-operation with “Yamaha” engineers during the development of the five-octave concert marimba allowed her to deeply explore the technical and artistic possibilities of the instrument. The great importance of this experience in the creation of works is confirmed by the introduction of new unusual playing techniques into the scores, such as the “dead stroke”, striking the “rib” of the key with the stem of the stick, and striking the sticks against each other once, striking the marimba key with the base of the stick, simultaneous double striking of the keys with the tip and base of the stick, repeated striking of the “rib” of the key (as well as of the key, of another stick) with acceleration created by the inertia of the stick rebound. Many of these were later used by other composers who wrote music for the marimba. The author of the article also touches upon some issues of the psychology of creativity, the process of creating musical works, Keiko Abe’s stage behaviour and her own attitude to performing and composing. Based on these data, the author concludes that the two components of a Japanese musician’s creative activity are inseparable and that they play a complementary role in relation to each other.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Кейко Абэ</kwd><kwd>соединение роли композитора и исполнителя</kwd><kwd>японская музыка</kwd><kwd>музыка для маримбы</kwd><kwd>техники исполнения на маримбе</kwd><kwd>приемы игры</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Keiko Abe</kwd><kwd>connecting the role of composer and performer</kwd><kwd>Japanese music</kwd><kwd>music for marimba</kwd><kwd>performance techniques on marimba</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Куприна Е. Ю. 2019.
