<p>Josip Slavenski (1896–1955), an outstanding Serbian composer, is one of the founders of chamber instrumental and symphonic music in Serbia. His compositions are performed in European countries, but they are unknown in Russia. This article examines Slavenski’s Quintet for Flute, Clarinet, Violin, Viola, and Double Bass, titled “From the Village”. In this composition, the composer’s style manifested itself for the first time: the soprano-ostinato variations employ timbral, register, and tonal variations of folklore themes, as well as their contrapuntal combination; the verse-variation form includes imitation; the rhythmic ostinato has the characteristics of a series, forming strettos rhythmic imitations, and when combined with melodic variability, it creates a similar relationship to talea-color. At the same time, the alternation of the three parts of the quintet — the folkloric “pictures” — reflects the outlines of the symphonic cycle: action — contemplation — play. The finale also features a characteristic “communius”: the endless emergence of new melodic variations creates an image of a mass celebration with many participants, each of whom contributes their own unique melody to the overall action, strictly following a single rhythmic formula. The brightness and originality of J. Slavenski`s writings ensure their preservation in the concert practice of our days.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>квинтет «Из села»</kwd><kwd>стиль</kwd><kwd>фольклорный тематизм</kwd><kwd>вариационность, вариантность</kwd><kwd>ритмическое ostinato</kwd><kwd>имитации</kwd><kwd>Йосип Славенски</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Josip Slavenski</kwd><kwd>quintet “From the village”</kwd><kwd>style</kwd><kwd>folklore thematicism</kwd><kwd>variation</kwd><kwd>variation</kwd><kwd>rhythmic ostinato</kwd><kwd>imitations</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Гордина Е. И. 1971. № 5.
