<p>This article is devoted to the analytical examination of one of the most famous songs by the rock band Queen — “Bohemian Rhapsody” (1975). This innovative musical work of its time demonstrates the atypical nature of its conceptual design, architectonics, and stylistic approach to rock composition. While combining features of a rock ballad and a hard-rock sound, the song also exhibits a pronounced connection to operatic heritage: through the inclusion of a quasi-operatic episode with verbal allusions to historical and theatrical characters, “Bohemian Rhapsody” engages in a dialogue with the traditions of academic musical theatre. Acknowledging the organic nature of this synthesis, researchers have repeatedly turned to this composition to identify stylistic features borrowed from the operatic tradition. In this regard, the author of this article sees the need to attempt a specification of the operatic model that served as material for Freddie Mercury’s creative reinterpretation, which determines the relevance of this work. Accordingly, the aim of the article is to search for an operatic scene that could have served as a prototype for the song’s quasi-operatic episode. To this end, a comparative analysis of the operatic section of “Bohemian Rhapsody” is conducted to identify common features with a particular scene from Christoph Willibald Gluck’s opera “Orpheus and Eurydice” (1762). As a result of the comparison, the author concludes that the operatic episode of Queen’s song can be viewed not only as a stylization in the spirit of the Baroque operatic tradition but also interpreted as a postmodernist interpretation of a specific operatic scene.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Christoph Willibald Gluck</kwd><kwd>Orpheus and Eurydice</kwd><kwd>operatic scene</kwd><kwd>postmodernism</kwd><kwd>Freddie Mercury</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>постмодернизм</kwd><kwd>Фредди Меркьюри</kwd><kwd>Кристоф Виллибальд Глюк</kwd><kwd>Орфей и Эвридика</kwd><kwd>оперная сцена</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Брукс Г., Лаптон С.
