<p>This article focuses on the figurative content of the works of Japanese marimba player and composer Keiko Abe (b. 1937). Her more than one hundred works for marimba are primarily programmatic. Abe’s programmatic approach is linked to the composer’s general aesthetic aspirations, which express a distinctively Japanese refined sense of beauty. Japanese aesthetic categories (wabi — the beauty of simplicity, sabi — the beauty of antiquity, mono-no-aware — the sad charm of things, kawaii — sweet beauty) permeate Abe’s works and unite the diverse worlds of her music. The article aims to identify the main figurative spheres of Abe’s music in their connection with traditional categories of Japanese aesthetics. The authors discover that the images in her works are often retrospective (memory-like works) or fleeting (impression-like works). K. Abe addresses important universal themes (love, loneliness, the journey of life), and images reflecting the distinctive Japanese culture (the matsuri festival, the Shichi-go-san festival). A vast expanse of landscape lyricism (images of wind, water, bamboo, and cherry blossoms) coexists with the world of human objects (small windows, an ancient vase, and a prism), while music with profound philosophical content evokes images of innocent childhood. The poetic sophistication of K. Abe’s works defines their high artistic value and originality, attracting the attention of listeners worldwide.</p>
<kwd-group xml:lang="ru"><kwd>Кейко Абэ</kwd><kwd>японская музыка</kwd><kwd>музыка для маримбы</kwd><kwd>программная музыка</kwd><kwd>японская эстетика</kwd><kwd>музыкальные образы</kwd></kwd-group><kwd-group xml:lang="en"><kwd>Keiko Abe</kwd><kwd>Japanese music</kwd><kwd>music for marimba</kwd><kwd>program music</kwd><kwd>Japanese aesthetics</kwd><kwd>musical images</kwd></kwd-group></article-meta></front><back><ref-list><ref id="ref1"><mixed-citation publication-type="other" xml:lang="ru">Ирдынеев Д. В.
